I am reviving an old idea. In my younger days, when I didn't have kids old enough to help make chores interesting, the drudgery really got to me. So one day I added labels to all my cleaning solution containers and on them I wrote affirmations. They were such nice reminders of how truly lucky I was to have a home to clean and friends and family to share my home with. Now that my daughter can read I think it is time to bring this back for her benefit as well.
Some sayings that ring true for me:
I am thankful for laundry to wash and fold, because it means I have clothes to wear.
I am thankful for dishes to wash, because it means we had food to eat,
I am thankful for clean water running to our home.
I am thankful for the roof and walls the dust collects within.
I am thankful for the dirt we track in after a full day of life.
Thank you for dirty dishes, they have a tale to tell;
while others may go hungry, we're eating very well.
I am thankful for a lawn that needs mowing, windows that need cleaning and gutters that need fixing because it means I have a home.... I am thankful for the piles of laundry and ironing because it means my loved ones are nearby. -Nancie J. Carmody
My idea of superwoman is someone who scrubs her own floors. -Bette Midler
